This summer, Wembley Stadium connected by EE, the UK’s largest and most iconic live event venue, partnered with award-winning sustainable packaging company Notpla and hospitality provider Delaware North to introduce regenerative food packaging to UK live music.

Across ten consecutive concerts, more than 350,000 items of Notpla’s seaweed-based trays and boxes were used across Wembley’s food and beverage outlets. This large-scale rollout represents a new benchmark in sustainable packaging for major entertainment venues and supports Wembley’s long-term ambition to reduce its environmental footprint across operations.

Real-world innovation, scaled for live music

Notpla’s foodservice packaging is coated with a patented 100% plastic and PFAS-free barrier, offering the same performance as traditional packaging while being able to biodegrade naturally like fruit peel. Fans enjoyed their food knowing it was served in packaging designed for a world without plastic waste.

Working closely with Bunzl, a leading global distributor of foodservice packaging and catering supplies, and Delaware North, Wembley’s long-term foodservice partner, the initiative swapped out the incumbent trays and boxes with a new seaweed-powered alternative - showing how material innovation and operational excellence can work hand in hand to create a more sustainable fan experience at one of the world’s busiest venues.

Pierre Paslier, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Notpla:

“Bringing seaweed packaging into the UK’s biggest venue for live entertainment shows that change is possible on the world’s biggest stages. This collaboration with Wembley Stadium and Delaware North proves that sustainable innovation can scale to meet the demands of live music and sport, without compromising the fan experience.”

Tangible impact on a record-breaking scale

The introduction of Notpla products across Wembley Stadium prevented an estimated 355.7 kg of plastic from entering the waste stream and delivered 3,988 kg CO₂e savings compared with PLA-lined alternatives.

This collaboration marks a new benchmark for sustainable packaging in live entertainment - proving how innovation can scale to meet the ambitions of world-class venues leading the change.

Lewis Blake, Head of Concessions for Delaware North at Wembley Stadium:

“The summer concerts at Wembley have provided the opportunity to trial new and innovative ways of achieving our sustainability goals, while continuing to deliver a first-class food and drink experience to fans. We’re proud that Wembley is showcasing how large-scale events can be both world-class and sustainable.”
